Thank you to our guests that stay with us last sea Thank you to our guests that stay with us last season and donated to the West Coast Penguin Trust. We raised $620 which has been donated to the Trust to help with their work protecting our beautiful Little Blue Penguins. We are fortunate to have the breeding ground on the sand dunes behind the lodge. Once again, thanks to everyone who enjoyed Selwyn's nature amphibious tour and donated to help look after our penguins ❤️🐧https://www.westcoastpenguintrust.org.nz/about/

We pinch ourselves every day to make sure we aren't dreaming, but we are living the dream. A beautiful day for a walk on the beach❤️

Meet Sam. For those that have stayed this season, Meet Sam. For those that have stayed this season,  you've probably met Sam as she cheerily greets our guests when she comes into work each day. Sam is our all-rounder helping with cleaning, gardening, and kitchen assistant. 
Sam has another trick up her sleeve. She is a qualified hairdresser.  So, as we had a spare hour today,  I treated myself to a cut and blowdry. 
Would it be a good idea to offer in-house hairdressing to our guests? Would you take up the offer? Let me know.

Although we missed the lunar eclipse in the middle Although we missed the lunar eclipse in the middle of the night, the moon was still spectacular over the sea when we woke.
When one of your Finnish guests is also celebratin When one of your Finnish guests is also celebrating their birthday, we ended up having a party for Selwyn and Timo and might have had an ouzo or two. Timo taught me a traditional Finland dance.
Happy birthday to our one and only Selwyn. As gue Happy birthday to our one and only Selwyn.  As guests ordered eggs bene this morning, I made an extra batch of hollandaise sauce so he could have them for  brekkie too. Love you always Elizabeth ❤️

Aoraki (Mt Cook) Smoked Salmon Salad

Aoraki Smoked Salmon with avocado, thinly sliced zucchini on a bed of lettuce, and a drizzle of homemade balsamic glaze

Arancini (vegetarian)

Arancini Balls (2) filled with arborio rice, house-made mozzarella and parmesan cheese, herbs and coated with Elizabeth's fresh-made breadcrumbs. Topped with Grana Padano cheese and served on a bed of fresh tomato Napoletana sauce.

Garden Salad

Garden-fresh vegetables and herbs in a homemade Italian dressing.

Garlic & Herb bread

Fresh in-house  made focaccia with Awatuna Sunset Lodge garden-grown garlic and herbs

Greek Salad

Traditional Greek salad with tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, capsicum, feta cheese, olives, mint, and homemade Greek dressing.

Whitebait Taster

Whitebait Naturale from our own Waimea Creek, lightly cooked in local Westgold butter and served with lemon from our trees, garden salad, and a freshly made slice of bread.  



Mains

Cotoletta di Pollo (Chicken Schnitzel)

Free-range Chicken  with our homemade breadcrumbs  served with mashed potato and seasonal vegetables and Elizabeth's chargrilled capsicum (peppers) and chili sauce.

Fish of the day

 Local West Coast market-fresh fish (filleted) grilled in Westgold butter and served with seasonal vegetables and lemony, garlic Greek potatoes. You may even see the fishing boats on the horizon while dining.

Fish- Crumbed Fish

Fresh, local Westfleet fish, crumbed in Elizabeth's homemade breadcrumbs. Served with hand cut chips/fries cooked in extra virgin olive oil and vegetables.

Lamb Shank (GF) (Minimum 2 orders please)

Local, New Zealand Lamb shank, made to order 6.5 hour slow-cooked in a red wine, and fresh tomato stock, served with  the stock reduction, mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Please pre-order the day. Please note a minimum of 2 orders is required as we slow cook them all day.

Lasagne

Home-made beef Lasagne. Elizabeth's freshly-made pasta, freshly ground beef, house-made mozzarella cheese and tomato ragù sauce served with seasonal vegetables.

Moussaka (vegetarian) GF

Moussaka with potato, eggplant, zucchini, garlic and onion, in a fresh tomato sauce, homemade mozzarella cheese and béchamel sauce. Contains dairy. Served with a Greek salad (vegetarian, GF)

Pizza Carciofi

Pizza with sugo di pomodoro, proscuito cotto (ham), artichokes and  homemade mozzarella. Please order the day before so we can make the pizza dough.

Pizza Carne

Pizza Carne - Pizza with  the lot Elizabeth's homemade base and sauce (for a spicy twist, add chili) Homemade mozzarella, fresco sugo de pomodorro (homemade tomato sauce), famous Blackball salami/pepperoni, bacon, and beef sausages, black olives, capsicum, and onions. Please order the day before so we can make the pizza dough.

Pizza Puttanesca

Pizza with fresco sugo de pomodorro (homemade tomato sauce), homemade mozzarella cheese, anchovies, chili, olives, capers,  garlic and onion. Please order the day before so we can make the pizza dough.

Pizza Verdura

Pizza Vedura - Vegetarian Pizza with Elizabeth's homemade base and sauce (for a spicy twist, add chili) Homemade mozzarella, fresco sugo de pomodorro (homemade tomato sauce), olives, capsicum, mushrooms,  and red onion and fresh herbs. Please order the day before so we can make the pizza dough.    

Pizza Whitebait

Whitebait Pizza Whitebait on a butter and egg base and topped with chives. This flavoursome pizza allows the focus of the taste on the delicate fish. Please order the day before so we can make the pizza dough.

Vegetable Stack with Quinoa Rice (vegan, GF)

A roasted vegetable stack of potato, pumpkin, kumara, capsicum, mushroom, and red onion served with quinoa rice and a tomato and red wine relish.

Venison Saltimbocca

Italian- Kiwi Fusion. Grass-fed venison cooked medium rare wrapped in prosciutto crudo (Italian cured bacon), on a bed of caramelized red onions in a balsamic and gin jus served with mashed potatoes and roasted kumara and horopito infused green beans (other seasonal vegetables may be substituted).

Whitebait Pattie

Whitebait we catch in our backyard in Waimea Creek. Traditional, West Coast whitebait pattie, served with Elizabeth's freshly baked bread, hand-cut fries, one of our freshly laid free-range eggs, lemon from our tree, and local Westgold butter. Served with a side garden salad. Our land-to-plate dining at its finest! Instructions on how to eat this sarnie (Kiwi slang for sandwich):

  • Take 2 slices of freshly baked white bread
  • Spread Westgold butter on bread
  • Place whitebait patties on bread, and add a dash of salt to taste (optional)
  • Squeeze fresh lemon on patties
  • Place the second piece of bread on top.
  • Pick up your sarnie and eat, delicious................

Combo Italiano

  • Not sure what to try? How about a mini tiramisu and 1 scoop of Elizabeth’s gelato- homemade GF Italian sponge biscuits dipped in espresso coffee and Kahlua coffee liqueur, with layers of mascarpone cheese and cream topped with cocoa; and choose your gelato flavour from our daily selection.

Elizabeth’s Gelato

 1 or more scoops of Elizabeth’s home-made gelato (check our daily flavours). Made with either fresh fruit or herbs grown onsite and the finest natural ingredients.

Lemon Delight

A shot of limoncello and a scoop of refreshing homemade lemon gelato or Lemon sorbet (please note lemon sorbet must be pre-ordered as it is made to order as it has a short freezer life)

Sticky Date Pudding

Sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce and served with ice cream and fresh whipped cream.

Tiramisu (GF)

Homemade gluten-free savoiardi, Italian sponge biscuits, dipped in espresso coffee and Kahlua, topped with mascarpone cheese and cream and chocolate
