When one of your Finnish guests is also celebratin When one of your Finnish guests is also celebrating their birthday, we ended up having a party for Selwyn and Timo and might have had an ouzo or two. Timo taught me a traditional Finland dance.
Happy birthday to our one and only Selwyn. As gue Happy birthday to our one and only Selwyn.  As guests ordered eggs bene this morning, I made an extra batch of hollandaise sauce so he could have them for  brekkie too. Love you always Elizabeth ❤️

Elizabeth and Selwyn were very welcoming and accommodating. The property is lovely with beautiful hydrangeas framing the ocean views. The room was very clean and comfortable! Elizabeth made us a fantastic breakfast, and we especially loved her homemade focaccia bread. Someone in our party has dietary restrictions, and she was extremely accommodating and made a delicious vegan breakfast for that guest. Selwyn took us on an exhilarating ride on his ATV down to the beach and shared with us facts of life in New Zealand as we rode. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!!

Yesterday was a perfect day for a wedding. Startin Yesterday was a perfect day for a wedding. Starting with a pre-wedding breakfast by the sea for the bridal party and family followed by a beautiful ceremony and reception. Congratulations, Mr & Mrs ❤️

It's great when we have new guests stay through wo It's great when we have new guests stay through word of mouth. Bea's daughter and son-in-law stayed with us in January last year on their honeymoon.  She told her mum, she had to stay here as it was the best place they stayed on their entire holiday.  Bea came with her friend, Dada, and by the comment in our visitors book, agrees with her daughter 🥰.

Happy Anniversary, Awatuna Sunset Lodge 🪅🥳🥂. We op Happy Anniversary, Awatuna Sunset Lodge 🪅🥳🥂. We opened 6 years ago today on 6th January 2020. Although our timing wasn't great, we now have a great little place that we love to share with people from around the world. We've met the most amazing people who have enriched our lives. We are thankful for everyone's support over the years, with some regulars that have become great friends. All our guests become our friends, and we can't wait to do a round the world  trip to meet up with many of you. Today our guests were thrilled to see dolphins playing close to shore, as well as some of our fabulous birdlife, including tui, harrier hawkes and this gorgeous wood pigeon that flew between the rata and rhodedendren trees coming in close to us. I think they all showed up to help us celebrate. Once again,  thanks to everyone  who has stayed, is staying this season  and staying the next ❤️.

Whitebait Pattie

Whitebait we catch in our backyard in Waimea Creek. Traditional, West Coast whitebait pattie, served with Elizabeth's freshly baked bread, hand-cut fries, one of our freshly laid free-range eggs, lemon from our tree, and local Westgold butter. Served with a side garden salad. Our land-to-plate dining at its finest! Instructions on how to eat this sarnie (Kiwi slang for sandwich):

  • Take 2 slices of freshly baked white bread
  • Spread Westgold butter on bread
  • Place whitebait patties on bread, and add a dash of salt to taste (optional)
  • Squeeze fresh lemon on patties
  • Place the second piece of bread on top.
  • Pick up your sarnie and eat, delicious................
